The Betty Crocker Landscape Awards are an annual attempt to recognize some of the thousands of people who work every day to make Hawaii a more beautiful place. Some do it for a living and some do it for a hobby, but all of them do it out of a love of the land and an appreciation of the natural beauty of the Islands. We salute each and every one of them.
The awards are named for Betty Crocker, the founder of the organization who worked for more than 20 years to protect and preserve the state's beauty and scenic views and to encourage new beautification efforts wherever possible. She passed away in 2000.
So many photos and so much information was available this year that it has taken awhile to get it all formatted for the internet! Finally the slide shows are ready for viewing! We have TWO slideshows - the first shows the award winning gardens, and the second shows the guests and participants at the 2006 Betty Crocker Award Presentation Ceremony. The slideshows now online were created in Adobe Photoshop and have an interface that is pretty much set (can't be changed except for certain things like the colors and titles). If you look at the image below, you can see the controls for the slideshows:
These controls appear at the far RIGHT of the page. If you want the slideshow to move forward automatically, click on the icon shown there under the little hand. You can play around with the other icons - I still haven't figured out everything they do :-)
REMINDER: These shows are large files. Though they are in a streaming format, they still take awhile to start up... please be patient while the first slides load.
On to the slideshows!
